Nkwanta South District has seen a rebirth of it's name from district to a municipality as inaugurated by the deputy regional minister,honorable Maxwell Blagodzi.

Nkwanta South is one of the eighteen districts in the Volta Region. The Nkwanta South came into being with the division of the former Nkwanta district into the South and North in 2009.
The former was curved from the Kete-Krachi District in 1989. The district capital is Nkwanta
Nkwanta South is one of the constituencies represented in the Parliament of Ghana. It elects one Member of Parliament by the first past the post system of election. Nkwanta South is located in the Nkwanta district of the Volta Region of Ghana.

The major towns in the district are loaded to the natural Electricity Grid.
It is hoped the rural Electrification program will soon reach all the other communities.
It would be recalled that,on 15th of March 2018,the name of Nkwanta south district has metarmophose to Nkwanta Municipal amidst joy and excitement from the opinion leaders,traditional leaders,chiefs and elders,market women,farmers etc.
It's the hope of the people that,there would be accelerated development within the four corners of the municipality
The legislative instrument and processes were taken into consideration before the final inaugural ceremony at the Assembly Hall under the auspices of the deputy regional minister .The chairman of the occasion was Mr Sewurah,a former head master of the Nkwanta Senior High
